About

I build the whole system, not just the part that shows

I am a Full-Stack Developer working across frontend, backend, databases, APIs, integrations and deployment. In practice that means I can take a requirement from a conversation through to something running in production, without handing it between people at each layer — which is usually where time and budget go missing.

What I enjoy most is the difficult part: working out why a system behaves the way it does, and finding a solution that is practical rather than clever. A lot of my work involves inherited codebases — applications that still earn money but that nobody currently understands. Making those reliable again is a different skill from starting fresh, and it is one I have spent a lot of time on.

I care about systems being maintainable and scalable, but not as abstractions. Concretely: the next developer should be able to read the code, the next feature should not require a rewrite, and when something breaks at 2am the logs should say what happened.

Domains I have worked in

  • Business applications and internal tools
  • Real-time systems: chat, presence, notifications
  • E-commerce and WooCommerce customisation
  • CRM and lead management systems
  • Communication platforms
  • Custom WordPress and WooCommerce plugins
  • API and third-party integrations
  • SaaS-style multi-user applications
Why work with me

Hiring a developer is a risk. Here is how I reduce it.

Most projects do not fail on syntax. They fail on unclear scope, decisions nobody wrote down, and code that becomes expensive to change six months later.

  • Business-first development

The first question is what problem this solves and what it is worth. Technology decisions follow from that answer, not the other way round.

  • Full-stack ownership

Frontend, backend, database, APIs, integrations and deployment handled by one person — so nothing falls into the gap between specialists.

  • Production mindset

Code that is maintainable, secure and observable. A feature is finished when it runs reliably in production and you can tell when it does not.

  • Problem solving

A large part of my work is debugging systems I did not write: reproducing the fault, finding the actual cause, and fixing it without breaking three other things.

  • Modern technology, used judiciously

Current tools where they earn their place. No architecture that requires four services and a message queue to send an email.

  • Long-term thinking

Systems built so the next change is cheap — clear structure, documented decisions, and no dependency on one person remembering how it works.

Technology

The stack, in order of how much I use it

Not every technology deserves equal billing. These are grouped by layer, with the tools I reach for on most client work marked as primary.

  • Frontend

Interfaces that stay fast and maintainable as the product grows.

    • React.js
    • Next.js
    • TypeScript
    • Tailwind CSS
    • Vue.js
    • Angular
    • Ionic
  • Backend

APIs and application logic, in whichever ecosystem the project lives in.

    • Node.js
    • NestJS
    • Laravel
    • PHP
    • Express
    • CodeIgniter
  • Databases & caching

Schema design, indexing and caching decided by the queries you actually run.

    • MySQL
    • MongoDB
    • Redis
  • CMS & e-commerce

WordPress treated as a platform to build on, not a pile of plugins.

    • WordPress
    • WooCommerce
    • Custom plugins
    • LearnDash
    • Elementor
  • Real-time

Live features designed for dropped connections, not just the happy path.

    • Socket.IO
    • WebSockets
    • Real-time notifications
    • WebRTC concepts
  • Infrastructure

Getting it deployed, observable and recoverable — VPS or shared hosting.

    • Docker
    • Nginx
    • PM2
    • Cloudflare
    • MinIO
    • cPanel / Apache

Highlighted items are the technologies I work in most often.

How I work

A process that keeps surprises small

Five stages, each ending in something you can see. The point is that direction gets corrected early, when correcting it is cheap.

  1. 01Step 01

    Discover

Understand the business, the users, the requirements and whatever already exists.

    • What problem is costing you time or money right now
    • Who uses the system and what they need from it
    • What is already built, and what has to keep working
    • Constraints: hosting, budget, deadlines, existing integrations
  2. 02Step 02

    Plan

Define architecture, technology, data flow and an implementation order.

    • Data model and API surface agreed before code is written
    • Technology chosen for the problem, not for novelty
    • Scope split into deliverable stages with visible progress
    • Risky and uncertain areas tackled early, not last
  3. 03Step 03

    Build

Develop the frontend, backend, integrations and business logic.

    • Working software you can look at throughout, not only at the end
    • Regular check-ins so direction is corrected early and cheaply
    • Code written to be read again — by you, your team, or me in a year
    • Edge cases and failure paths handled as they come up
  4. 04Step 04

    Test

QA, debugging, security checks, responsive testing and performance work.

    • Real-device testing across the breakpoints that matter
    • Input validation and access control verified server-side
    • Performance measured rather than assumed
    • Accessibility: keyboard, focus, contrast, semantics
  5. 05Step 05

    Launch

    Deploy, monitor, optimise and support.

    • Documented deployment with a rollback path
    • Environment configuration and secrets handled properly
    • Logging and error visibility so problems surface early
    • Handover documentation, plus support after go-live
